Gas and bathrooms
If the tank is under three-quarters and you see a station in town, fill up. Small-town pumps may close early. Do not assume late-night gas.
Fill up in these towns
- Batchawana / Sunset-Twilight areaFill before the long stretch toward Agawa / Wawa. Services get thin.
- WawaAlways fill here. Critical hub in both directions.
- MarathonReliable town stop on the north shore. Top off even if the tank looks fine.
- Terrace Bay / SchreiberNear Aguasabon, Casque Isles, and Rainbow Falls. Fill while you are in town.
- NipigonFill before or after lookout / waterfront stops. Next stretches can be sparse.
- Thunder BayFill before Sleeping Giant / Silver Islet side trips or before leaving town.
- Munising / Paradise / Sault Ste. Marie MIUS side fill-ups before park days and before crossing or long UP stretches.
Nicer bathroom bets
- Best bets: Travel Information / visitor centers (staffed, usually cleaner).
- Next: Ontario Parks or state park day-use buildings when open.
- In towns: bigger plazas (Thunder Bay, Sault, Wawa, Marathon, Terrace Bay, Nipigon).
- On the US side: large travel plazas (Love's / Pilot / Flying J) when you see one.
- Skip betting on unmarked rural gas-station bathrooms if you can wait for a town.
Helpful on her phone (optional): Google Maps with offline maps saved for Ontario north shore; GasBuddy for prices in towns. Bathroom finder apps are weaker in rural Superior; trust the rules above.
Show visitor / info centers on mapDogs: leash in parks unless a signed dog beach. No dogs on Agawa pictograph trail.
Ontario Parks: day permits may be needed for Kakabeka, Ouimet, Sleeping Giant area stops.
